Our history.

How did it all start?
Why is La Newyorkina called La Newyorkina?

We tell you all about it: It was a bad breakfast in a hotel in NYC, we were on a trip visiting the city in what would be the first stop of a trip that would take us to drive around part of the country. We were on vacation, yes, but we were also looking for something, we still didn't know what it... The hotel concierge, in perfect "spanglish" pointed out to us the way that would change everything "for breakfast go to the café in the alley, the food is amazing".


We arrived at the right time, always curious about what was new, we asked what was that that smelled so good, "homenade Granola" the waitress answered us while she served us coffee. Crunchy, tasty and combined with the acidity of the natural yogurt, we instantly fell in love with it.

The rest of the day
went well.

...it was a wonderful day and the city was inviting us to take a stroll. At lunchtime we decided to get a take away and eat it in Central Park, we went into Whole Foods to buy the food and when we went down the cereal aisle we saw a few interesting Granola proposals from small, independent brands which were in what is regarded as the ”supermarket of the future", the food trendsetter.

That afternoon in Central Park we started creating a Granola brand in Spain and the dream was to become manufacturers, to set up a workroom in Asturias. "That's right, the idea had emerged in NYC, so it would be called La Newyorkina".

...for the rest of the journey there was always time to go into some supermarket or other and visit the cereal aisle and of course we asked everyone we talked to, that’s how we found out that California surfers had Granola in their bowls with Açai and that it was always available in every supermarket, store or restaurant that regarded itself as health

We seemed to be the only ones who didn’t know about Granola. During the trip back by plane, reading the biography of the creator of Virgin Records and a real drive to create something ourselves did the rest. We’d set everything aside, or almost everything, and create a Granola brand.

Finally in Spain.

What is Granola??? "I’ve got the category covered" or "that’ll never work in Spain" were some of the first answers. 2 years of constant investment until using up all our savings almost put an end to the dream.

But we had something, our Granola tasted good, we had created something special, something real, we had made it ourselves with a lot of affection and the brand was winning over the first customers. The first acknowledgements began to appear, minor mentions in the press and "nationwide" awards began to open doors for us; we were revolutionizing the cereals category and we didn’t realize it yet.
