When Mozart met Beyoncé - New Yorker

When Mozart met Beyoncé

by La Newyorkina
I have always liked ballet. Although I did not practice it in my early childhood, I have always been attracted to this discipline. The beauty of the dance that we observe from the stalls contrasts with its darker side, that back side that we spectators do not see (but imagine) of hard and long hours of work, shattered feet and demanding training. More than a few films throughout history have placed ballet at the center of their storylines. Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman in 2010, unleashed ballet fever in the United States and, as a result of the enthusiastic masses who dreamed of having the body of a graceful ballerina, new versions of ballet were born, suitable for non-professionals. Perfectly toned muscles and shapely legs with pliés and chassés, who wouldn't want them? Well, now we mere mortals have the opportunity to perform a workout similar to that of the dancers, but taking the most beautiful and fun part and leaving aside the most demanding. How? Thanks to Ballet Fit, a discipline that has already swept the gyms in the United States and is gaining strength in our country. A perfect mix between fitness and classical dance, perfect for those of us who are a little too old to get started in ballet. Ballet Fit combines cardiovascular work and toning exercises, improving flexibility and muscle performance. 55-minute sessions to work on strength, coordination and balance to the rhythm of a fusion between piano music, for the more relaxed moments, and more powerful hits for the higher intensity blocks. Mozart and Beyonce in the same session. Promising, isn't it? This type of session focuses a lot on abdominal work, helping us to strengthen the core through isometric exercises that will help us to correct our posture. A Ballet Fit class is divided into three parts. The first, to warm up, in which classic ballet exercises are practiced on the barre. Then comes the most intense part with a cardio workout based on easy-to-follow choreographies. To finish, nothing better than returning to calm with ballet, yoga or Pilates stretches. In addition to toning the body, Ballet Fit is an excellent way to eliminate stress. As you can see, there are many advantages of doing ballet in the gym. But the main advantage is how much fun you will have practicing it, I guarantee it! If, like me, you've always wanted to learn how to do a perfect plié, you're going to love this activity. Of course, I recommend that before each session you have a good granola-based snack to fill you up with energy because dancing burns a lot of calories!
