Today, besides being Tuesday the 13th, Shrove Tuesday and World Radio Day, is also National Breakfast Day. That's nothing. So many things for the same day.
At La Newyorkina we are diehard fans of breakfast, as we have already told you on occasion. It has the reputation of being the most important meal of the day and popular wisdom elevates it to the category of kings (breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar).
So, to learn that today is the celebration of the
National Breakfast Day has been almost like a party in our workshop. We know that our handmade granola is part of many people's breakfasts (more and more) and that's why we feel part of such an important moment in people's nutrition and health. And that is a good reason to celebrate, isn't it?
On the occasion of the National Breakfast Day, the Spanish Nutrition Foundation has presented a study titled
"State of the art on Breakfast in Spain". We have enjoyed reading this study from cover to cover and you can download it at
the website of the Spanish Nutrition Foundation.
Throughout these pages we have been able to learn more about Spanish breakfast habits and customs, we have discovered traditional breakfasts throughout the world and we have remembered the importance of honoring ourselves with a good breakfast every morning.
"It helps to reorganize the metabolic changes suffered during the night, avoids the effects of prolonged fasting and, on many occasions, includes the first liquid ingested after a long period of time, thus helping to maintain the correct hydric state."
According to data from the latest survey of 21.508 Spanish households by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics, 57.64% drink some liquid and bread, toast, cookies, cereals or pastries; 12.24% drink only some liquid; 9.71% drink some liquid (coffee, tea, chocolate...) and fruit or juices and bread, toast, cookies, cereals or pastries; 1.74% drink some liquid and fruit; and 1.74% drink some liquid and fruit.) and fruit or juices and bread, toast, cookies, cereals or pastries; 1.74% have some liquid and fruit and, tragically, 3.36% of the population do not usually eat breakfast!
(This is a message to the 3.36% who do not eat breakfast: we will meet you wherever you are, we will convince you of the importance of having a good breakfast and, when you taste our handmade and Mediterranean granola, you will think of nothing else but breakfast).
